March 2009 -- Bay Area Welcomes “Artists As Peacemakers”
Correspondent Susan McDonough reports that the “Artists As Peacemakers” exhibit had a successful Northern California showing, inspiring hundreds of visitors to the SGI-USA San Francisco Community Center and to the Academy of Art University, where the exhibit was held for successive weeklong runs from February 22 through March 6.
The exhibit features international artists such as Nobel Prize-winning author Nadine Gordimer, actress Angelina Jolie, singer Sade, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and ICAP’s own Herbie Hancock, among many others. The artists are honored not only for their contribution to world culture but also, and most importantly, for their dedicated efforts for world peace through the transformative power of the arts.

On the final night of the exhibition, the young people involved in bringing the exhibition to the two locations presented a concert in culmination of their desire to, according to Susan, “create art and to remind [their peers] of their great potential to bring peace to society.”
